About the Riverside County Superior Court

The Riverside County Superior Court, or alternatively the Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, is a court of general jurisdiction, serving over 2.5 million residents who live and work across its 7,303 square miles. Riverside County is California’s fourth most populous county and the U.S.’s tenth most populous. This court can hear matters relating to criminal felonies, juveniles, families, probate, traffic, and civil issues.

The Riverside County Superior Court, headed by a Presiding Judge, is divided into multiple divisions, including Civil, Criminal, Family, Probate, Juvenile, and Traffic courts. Other divisions that exist to aid the public and the court system are Alternative Dispute Resolution, Interpreter Services, Appeals, Procurement, Grand Jury, and Enhanced Collections.

The Court’s mission statement is: “The Superior Court of California, County of Riverside will, in a fair, accessible, effective, and efficient manner, resolve disputes arising under the law and will interpret and apply the law consistently, impartially, and independently to protect the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitutions of California and of the United States.”

Civil Division

The Civil Division of the Riverside County Superior Court handles lawsuits involving disputes over money, title or possession of real property, enforcing a contract, protecting one's civil rights, or seeking compensation for a civil tort. Criminal Division

The Criminal Division of the Superior Court of Riverside County has jurisdiction over misdemeanor and felony cases.

Probate Division

The Riverside County Superior Court Traffic Division hears cases relating to traffic matters, including vehicle code infractions, municipal code infractions, and county ordinances. In 2020, 188,494 infractions were filed in Riverside County.
